The Improvement Mindset

Ask yourself this question:  What's the relationship between my job or work this year and last year?  There are three groups that reveal a lot about whether you have the right mindset for improvement.  Are you a Traditionalist?  Someone who likes things to stay the same?  Or, are you an Improver?  Even if given a full proof method for making a million dollars, it's tempting to want to change it.  While that can be challenging at times, these individuals can also be great Innovators.  If you find you prefer to create new processes, this can be an essential role in bringing sustainable change to an organization.

Lean Six Sigma focuses on processes and systems.  It focuses on a problem-solving process.  What it is not- is a goal  achievement process.  You want people who love to solve and avoid problems.  Implementing Lean Six Sigma requires leadership on multiple levels.

Do you work with someone likes to solve problems because of the pain and suffering that would be avoided, whether it's complaints from customers or due to  internal communication breakdowns that lead to work that ends up being duplicated?

Those who are wired for improvement have the motivation traits of leaders, problem solvers, processors, and evolutionaries.  The people who are wired for innovation have the motivation traits of achievers, innovators, and revolutionaries.
